Stage Presence

To me bodybuilding is an art. Working your butt of in the gym and conforming to a strict optimum diet in order to sculpt and refine your physique to show your true physical potential is no mean feat. Attending many bodybuilding competitions over the years and watching thousands of posing routines has been and continues to be an absolute pleasure, and at the same time mega frustrating in the sense that very few competitors actually put the time and effort in to displaying their physique the best they possibly can as is required by the judging panel and the fans that pay to see them.

How many times have you seen a competitor standing onstage with an obviously impressive physique but not a clue how to display it properly? Well I’ve seen it hundreds of times. They stand there, shoulders tensed up tight together, arms held out in front of them as if they’re just about to start rolling pastry with a rolling pin, and legs locked out hyper extending at the knees looking so uncomfortable and out of place, and losing them valuable points all because they haven’t put in the same amount of effort into their posing that they put into their training and contest diet. Such a shame, such a waste!!

Posing itself is an art-form. Standing onstage looking so graceful appearing to be effortlessly displaying your physique as the crowd cheer because you are entertaining them the way they want to be entertained. Shoulders wide and full, arms pulled back to accentuate your shape, lats spread wide, and knees bent out slightly splaying your quads to make them appear wide and detailed. That’s what the fans and judges want to see. To some displaying their physique comes naturally, but the best posers weather posing comes naturally or not practice there posing daily in front of the mirror. They ask the opinion of their bodybuilding piers, ‘how do my arms look in this pose, should I lift my elbows higher’, ‘ do my hamstrings look tight when I stand this way’ etc. etc… It may all sound a little vain and a little too embarrassing to ask somebody how they think you look, but with the right kind of people in your corner giving you the guidance on what looks right and what doesn’t when your stood onstage could make the difference between winning or losing!

That is why I am offering a keen eye to those who want to look the best they possibly can onstage.
